GE will begin selling its fashionable camera line, the "Create by Jason Wu" line, beginning today. The cameras will be available in 10 different leather and metallic colors.

GE is hoping to sell the Jason Wu cameras in traditional camera retail locations, as well as in fashion stores, such as Nordstrom-type store. Today, the cameras will debut for sale on HSN and HSN.com at MSRPs between $179.99 and $229.99. Some models include fashionable wrist straps and leather cases, and others include a little more internal memory.

The metal colors are white, black, gold, red, yellow, blue, and green, while the leather colors are white, black, and gray.

The Jason Wu cameras include features such as:

• 12 megapixels of resolution

• 3X optical zoom lens

• 2.7-inch LCD

• Internal memory only (4 GB to 8 GB)

• Slide-out USB connector, eliminating need for carrying cables

• Rechargeable battery

Wu is well known for designing clothing for Michelle Obama, Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore, and others. His GE camera designs will include fashionable leather camera cases and wrist and neck straps.

It seems like the more things change in digital photography, the more the stay the same.

Canon's highly popular and long-running Rebel series of DSLR cameras is continuing in 2010, as the company recently released the latest model, the EOS Rebel T2i.

The Rebel T2i offers nice versatility for an entry-level DSLR model. It can shoot at 18 megapixels of resolution with still photos and at full 1080p with HD video. If you have a CEC compatible HDTV, you even can connect the Rebel T2i to your TV via an HDMI cable, and then control the camera with your TV remote.

The LCD on the Rebel T2i is very impressive, measuring 3.0 inches diagonally with more than 1 million pixels (more than four times the number of pixels available on many point and shoot camera LCDs).

Look for the Rebel T2i in stores in early March, and Canon will offer a few different configurations. For example, it will carry a $799.99 MSRP for the camera body only and an $899.99 MSRP for the camera with a starter lens. (Compare Prices)

The inaugural CP+ tradeshow, currently being held in Japan, hasn't resulted in a wave of new camera announcements, as have PMA 2010 and CES 2010 that were held earlier this year, but there has been some interesting news out of Tokyo this week.

• 3D cameras have been on display at CP+, including: A digital 3D model from Fujifilm that I've profiled, and a camera from Holga (pictured here) that works with slide film and that requires a special viewer.
• Nikon is displaying a headset at CP+ that can play back photos, videos, and music. The UP300 also includes WiFi capabilities and a built-in browser. The UP300 is only available in Japan right now.
• Lumos, a Japanese manufacturer, has created a ring light attachment for some Canon DSLR camera lenses and Ricoh GXR lenses. It will appear in Japan first in May.
• The Moby Mini Album makes it easy to create a small photo album, including all of the components you'll need, other than the inkjet printer. When it's available in the U.S., it'll cost around $10.

At the current CP+ tradeshow, Ricoh is displaying two additional lens blocks that it recently announced for its innovative GXR camera system, pictured here.

Rather than using interchangeable lenses for its GXR cameras, Ricoh uses interchangable lens blocks, as explained in the link above. Essentially, the lens blocks include a lens and an image sensor, giving the camera the ability to create varying levels of telephoto shots without requiring long lenses.

The P10 lens block includes a 28mm-300mm equivalent, while the A12 lens block has a fixed 28mm lens. The new lens blocks will appear in Japan in the second half of 2010, and they'll then migrate to other parts of the world a few months later.
